Coming fall 2008, 19 teachers are set to receive tenure under the Mountain View-Los Altos school district which will guarantee teachers a job if they decide to take an extended leave. In order to receive tenure, second year teachers are evaluated on the basis of a set criteria.

Mountain View High School Social Studies Teacher Mike Mathiesen will take over the position of Assistant Principal of Education from Gayle Larson at the start of the 2008 school year. After being called back from retirement three years ago to take the position, Larson is retiring next year.

Due to a state appellate court ruling on February 28, California parents who do not have teaching credentials can no longer home school their children. The ruling came from a child welfare dispute between the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and Philip and Mary Long of Lywood, who have been home schooling their eight children.

When Eliot Spitzer spends too much money on a prostitute or a racist posts a “Speak English” sign, the nation is enraged. When another tropical storm wracks the south or there may be a storm in the Bay Area, the nation is enthralled. When an entire country gains independence and another’s protests are squashed under a veil of mystery, the nation could care less.

NL West: The National League West is one of the most, if not the most, competitive divisions in all of baseball. Interestingly enough, the only team that doesn't have a chance to win the division is our local San Francisco Giants. The best bet would be for the Arizona Diamondbacks to repeat their success of last year and win. "They're going pretty far this year," Freshman Kevin Berchem said.
